Humanity is constantly evolving, but with the current technological advances, it is changing at the speed of light. These changes, moreover, were aggravated by the Covid-19 health crisis in many aspects of our daily lives. The workplace is one of the areas with more changes due to the exponential increase of algorithms and robots.
The workplace is progressively evolving towards a scenario where many jobs we know are disappearing while new ones are being created. According to the World Economic Forum 2020, it is expected that 85 million jobs will disappear worldwide, but that 97 million will be created to adapt to new needs.
Professor Mischa Dohler explained it some time ago in the Creativation Talks, an event organized by the Fundació per la Creativació. As the professor points out, in this new technological paradigm the human factor cannot be absent, which is why people and companies must adapt so as not to be left behind and acquire the necessary technological skills. In the report Digital Skills: New Professions, New Educational Methods, New Jobs of the European Commission, they assure that, soon, 90% of jobs in Europe will require digital skills.
As Professor Dohler points out, technological development must be accompanied by human talent through transversal professional skills. To not be left behind in the technological advances, the World Economic Forum 2020 proposes to reconvert current job positions by teaching workers new skills to adapt to the new times.
Companies must provide this digital education to adapt to the inevitable changes through training, specialists, or others. Although each area or company will adapt to its needs, there are a series of general competencies that the DigComp 2.0 report: The Digital Competence Framework for Citizens groups as follows:
- Information and data analysis, there's so much information on the Internet, that you must be able to find the right one:
- Communication and collaboration, knowing how to transmit information and talk attractively through the Internet:
- Creating content in digital format:
- Security, being aware of looking after and protecting everything related to the digital field:
- Trouble resolution, having the necessary knowledge to adapt:
Perhaps some of the digital competencies are still unknown to many people. Therefore, both the European Union and the governments of the different countries are developing training programs among their citizens and thus help them develop these skills.
