Keys to find a new professional project

01.07.2021

On June 30th, the sixth edition of #boostyourjobsearch was organised by Ironhack, a revolutionary technology school with campus in Barcelona. AXXON had the pleasure to take part on the event through a conference made by Alexandra Cuenca, the head of the AXXON Office in Barcelona. To bring some of our knowledge to future major professionals, Alexandra Cuenca explained the keys to find new professional projects.

Over the course of life we face different stages and changes that suppose a personal and professional challenge. Therefore, when facing professional challenges, it is important to have a clear goal and the steps to follow. The process of looking for a new professional project goes far beyond the job interview. From AXXON, we want to show you the different stages you face when looking for new professional projects and how to deal with them.

CREATING A GOOD CV

Curriculum vitae is the first contact you will have with companies, so it must show your profile correctly. The document is important not only in content but also in the design. It is important to structure and distribut the information through the page, for which we recommend to split the CV into paragraphs. The aim of structuring the information is to have a clear document that it is easy to read while occupying one or two pages max. When focusing on the content, it is important that your past experience and functions is well detailed, as well as you previous knowledge. Consequently, you have highligh your competences and to use keywords to show how your value ties in with the offer or company to which you have applied.

PROFESSIONAL PROJECTS

When looking for a professional project, you should know what you want and what you do not want in the professional field. Having a previous knowledge of the company will help you during the job interview but also to know if you like the position. As a result, you will be certain to apply to offers that motivate you, but also to those that fit your profile. Sending Cvs to different companies is not recommended. Moreover, when you really like an offer you can send your CV attached to a motivation letter.

PHONE AND FACE-TO-FACE INTERVIEWS

Once you've done the first match with a company, you will do a phone interview. Then, the next step in the selection process is to do face-to-face interview. The phone interview is usually done without previous notice, which makes it more informal. The main purpose is to establish a first interaction. We recommend to remember the applications sent so you can respond the phone call correctly. By remembering the company and the offer you show interest to the recruiter,  which is positively valued. On the face-to-face interview is very important to be punctual and well-dressed to create a good impression. Due to the current pandemic, most of the interviews are held via online. Although space is digital, the formal requirements are the same. Once the interview has started, our recommendation is to be able to explain correctly the CV content –your work experience – and your skills to show your value to the the company. As it has already been mentioned, prior knowledge of the company or interviewer helps to show the motivation and interest behind it. Smiling and being relaxed appearance also helps to create a good impression.

Preparing and developing your skills beforehand will help you to better explain your strong points. On the other hand, prior preparation will also help you to find your pitfalls and work on them for upcoming interviews. Some questions that can help to define your competences are: What competences do I have? Which are important for the position? How can I work my competences?

We know that the search process can be tough. However, social networks can help you to find new offers while increasing your opportunities through new contacts. Networks such as LinkedIn connect users with companies and recruiters, which enhance future relations.

Good luck in your new project!
