Last Saturday, the October 2nd, a team of 8 people participated on behalf of Axxon in the Oncotrail Girona race. All the participants are divided through teams, which traverse a total of 100 km in the runway through Baix Empordà, through the exceptional corners of the Brava coast and the Gavarres. The organizing body for this event is the Oncolliga Girona Foundation, together with the Palafrugell Excursionist Grouping and the Palafrugell Athletic Club.
Axxon has been joining the event for 6 years now, which is organised to collect funds to help the Oncolliga Girona Foundation. The Oncolliga is dedicated to improve the living conditions of cancer patients in the regions of Girona. We believe that it is important to be a speaker of the difficulties that both cancer patients and their families suffer, and to support major initiatives like Oncotrail.
This year, the Axxon team was even more eager to participate after postponing the last year’s edition due to COVID-19. The results of the 2021 edition for the Oncotrail are that the Axxon team arrived in 15 hours, collecting 1.000€ for Oncolliga.
Imma, Axxon's consultant and participant on the event, comments that the atmosphere of this event is exceptional, with many shared laughter and kilometers which further strengths the feeling of companionship. Another Oncotrail participant and consultant, Eva, comments how at the same time each year is a challenge to overcome and that how the teamwork helps on reaching on reaching the goal. Not because people want to be the first to arrive, but because of the realization you feel after reaching the goal and contributing to a social cause. As a team, Imma and Eva show their gratefulness to the organisation and volunteers who make possible the event that enables them to help Oncolliga and its mission.
In Axxon, we want to promote the values of sport and health by participating on these events. At the same time, we want to show our involvement in local events and the social cause behind. We're already preparing for the next edition!
