Contribution is a core competence in our daily live. In Axxon, we continuously work on it to improve different spaces. To contribute to something could be defined as a collaboration, towards someone or something. We can contribute by helping, giving time, providing knowledge or economic resources.
Throughout history, we have countless examples of people and of groups that have contributed positively on the society. Mahatma Gandhi contributed politically towards a nonviolent world and the strength of convictions. Rigoberta Menchu, worked tirelessly for social justice, specially for the indigenous people’s human rights. On the scientific side, an example of positive contributions is Stephen Hawking, one of the most recognized physicists along with Einstein. Furthermore, the Suffragist Movement was a clear example of a collective contribution, as it claimed and achieved the women's right to vote. Frida Kahlo is a landmark in the cultural and social world, contributing to the cultural and social world through her feminist paintings and activism. The social networks are a clear example too by reinventing people’s connection around common interest and values.
Therefore, the value of contribution has been, is, and will remain a determining competence for the societal development. The competence value also determines the positive development on the work environment.
And how can we contribute to our team?
You can contribute in many ways in to your team and project. Some examples are to contribute with our knowledge, our skills, our competences, our attitude, our dedication.
We often tend to value individual contributions, often associated with economic recognition and reward. Beyond that, one must be able to increase the individual contribution to the collective field, aligning with a shared and collective purpose of value contribution. Then, we will be able to grow when times are good, and be stronger at the difficult ones. The key is to be committed to contribute to development with the rest of the team.
Things are no longer impossible when someone keeps fighting to make them possible. Fighting to contribute to our environment is one of the best legacy we can offer to people and society.
JFK famously said, "Don't ask yourself what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Following the sentence’s meaning, we should ask ourselves what we can do for the surrounding people, family, friends, coworkers. What can we do in the collective environments that we participate in: schools, sports clubs, cultural, social clubs, in our company? Our individual contribution will be decisive for the contribution of the group and working parties.
