Although women have made significant progress in many fields, their presence in leadership positions remains a challenge in many areas of work.
In the context of 8 March, International Women's Day, we would like to highlight the experiences of women who are leading teams and projects within our organisation through effort, determination, and vision.
In this testimonial, we explore Jorgina's journey to leadership, how she overcomes challenges and what advice she has for future generations of women leaders.
How long have you been in a leadership role? What does it involve?
I have been in this role since the beginning of 2023. My role, like that of any team leader, is to inspire, motivate and lead the team towards its goals. It is about positively influencing others, building trust and fostering a collaborative environment. It is about setting clear goals, listening and making decisions that benefit both the team and the company.
It's also about communicating values and vision, identifying each team member's strengths and helping them to build on them.
Ultimately, leadership means ensuring that each team member feels valued and motivated to contribute with enthusiasm and commitment to the project, while acting as a facilitator to help them achieve the challenges and goals set.
Have you encountered any obstacles on your way to this position?
I firmly believe that any obstacle can be overcome if there is willingness, determination and strong cooperation from both the team and the organisation. Maintaining a positive attitude and being open to working together towards common goals is essential. When everyone is on the same page, difficulties become opportunities for learning and growth.
What advice would you give to other women aspiring to a similar role?
My advice would be to believe in yourself and your abilities. It is important not to be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, take on responsibility and continue to learn.
It is also crucial to build a strong support network - surround yourself with people who share your values and with whom you can share knowledge and experience. Collaboration is a powerful tool and sharing resources and advice can be key to moving forward.
Finally, it is important not to give up when faced with obstacles. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow and prove your resilience. Passion, commitment and perseverance are the elements that make a difference.
Jorgina's testimony highlights the importance of trust, collaboration and determination in overcoming barriers. But it also highlights the need for organisations to commit to creating an inclusive environment. Women leaders should not be seen as the exception, but as a natural part of the business fabric.
If we are to move towards a more equitable society, companies must ensure equal opportunities for leadership, valuing talent and potential above all other factors.
