Tech specialists: which are the ICT profiles?

16.12.2022

To begin with, let's explain what Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are, as they are hugely important in our daily life. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are an extension of Information Technology (IT). So, while IT oversees collecting, storing, and manipulating -among others- information and data; ICTs oversee going further and sharing this information between two or more points/people.

As a general concept, ICTs are all those technological tools and resources that work and facilitate the issuance, access, and treatment of information, regardless of its format (image, video, text, etc.). ICTs can go from exclusive tools to automate and optimize the business field to others we use daily (email, search engines, streaming, online services, social networks, etc.).

The main characteristics for which ICTs stand out are the immateriality and immediacy of actions and information. In addition, we can see how these characteristics have transferred to our society until becoming describing concepts of how we relate to each other today. The impact on a societal level demonstrates the importance and involvement of ICT in everyday life, both in the workplace and the personal sphere!

ICT professionals:

In recent years, jobs related to the ICT sector have increased significantly, and although multiple profiles work for this area, we highlight some of the most relevant:

  • Chief Digital Officer: to be up-to-date, companies need a person who oversees discovering and incorporating digital tools that help increase and optimize the company's productivity. Their goal is to create and maintain digitally competent businesses.
  • Customer Success Manager: oversees accompanying clients so they feel satisfied with the service and, thus, build their loyalty through strategy creation, use of relevant programs, and a little interaction with customers.
  • IT Director: the person responsible for controlling and supervising the entire IT department, that is, the whole digital infrastructure of the company. It oversees ensuring that the objectives are met, guaranteeing security, and, on occasion, proposing projects.
  • E-Commerce Manager: this profile is not always necessary; it will depend on the company's nature. If the business is online, the e-commerce manager is essential because he/she oversees managing, supervising, and coordinating all aspects of the online store: the proper functioning, content updating, campaigns related to the web, and others.

ICTs are a mix of information and technology so they rely on other departments like Big Data & Business Intelligence and the Programming & Software team. Thus, with a team made up of qualified professionals in different areas, it will be possible to have a digitally competent company and, in addition, to be one step ahead when it comes to improving.
